I fully appreciate that seeking professional help can be a daunting step. It may provoke feelings of embarrassment in not being able to cope and questions concerning trust. With this in mind I offer a safe, warm, confidential and regular place for us to meet.
The aim is for us to create a conversation which will allow you to open up about what is troubling you and for us to consider why. Having talked openly, often for the first time, allows time for reflection from a more informed perspective and opens up the possibility for change.
Often clients wonder how long the counselling will take? What is the difference between counselling and therapy?
We meet once per week (or more) for 50 minutes at a mutually convenient time. It is helpful to think of counselling as suitable for short term help, perhaps a crisis. Therapy is generally regarded as longer term work at a deeper level. I am trained to provide both. If you decide that you would like to seek some counselling help we’ll start with an assessment.
An assessment lasts between 60 – 90 minutes. This is our first opportunity to meet face to face and decide if our working together feels like the ‘right fit’ to explore your difficulties. I will collect your background information and clarify with you the focus for our conversations.
I regularly attend academic seminars to keep up to date with the latest thinking in the field and belong to the BACP which sets out national guidelines for professional bodies.
